My team at Effective Student Marketing and I are proud to be an official sponsor of the 2015 Run for the Troops 5K being held in Andover, MA on April 12th. The 6th annual fundraising event includes a Friday evening dinner and silent auction at the Andover Country Club, followed by the 5K walk/run for the troops on Sunday.
The two events raise money and awareness for injured soldiers of the U.S. military. Funds this year will support the national Homes for Our Troops, which will be building an adaptive home for Marine Staff Sergeant Hans Blum in the Sanford, Maine area. Hans lost both of his legs and suffered injuries to his left hand when he stepped on an IED in Afghanistan in February, 2012. After undergoing 40 surgeries, Hans now wears prosthetics during the day, but uses a wheelchair at home. His current house is not suited for his considerable needs. According to Hans, a more adaptive living space would free up time for him to pursue an education in recreational therapy at the University of New Hampshire so he could eventually help others with disabilities.
Funds also support the Ironstone Farm in Andover which uses horses to provide therapy for people with a wide range of physical, cognitive and emotional disabilities. Proceeds from this year’s Run for the Troops will be designated to help soldiers at the farm who are being treated for post-traumatic stress disorder.
It’s an honor and a privilege to be a part of Run For The Troops 5K and I’d like to invite everyone to join us on Sunday, April 12th. The race begins at 9:00 AM at 36 Bartlett Street and loops through the neighborhoods of Andover. There will be live entertainment and refreshments, and awards are presented to winners across age categories. We have participated in the race in the past and it really is a great time. Run, walk, or just come out in support of this worthwhile cause. It’s not too late to donate or register at: Run For The Troops 5K. You can also follow us on Twitter @RunForTheTroops.
We’re expecting a great turnout at this year’s race. I look forward to seeing you there!
